I have a WD MyBook 2TB Mirror Edition hooked up to my HP, but after a while, it gets idle, and when I try and access a file from my HD, nothing will load, show up, or work. Music files won't play, pictures won't load. Its like the drive is disconnected, but I did not touch anything/change anything. The blue light is flashing as usual so I know its on, what can I do here to make sure I can always access it and that it doesn't get disconnected after being idle?

Unfortunately it really does sound like a defective product! This should not happen! Perhaps you can call their customer service hotline. Request to speak to a manager immediately to escalate your case and expedite requests. In the meanwhile you should upgrade your BIOS and do a virus scan (that has the latest updates). Good luck!

I'm going to disagree here. I wouldn't call the product defective because the drive is spinning and when the computer is restarted, the drive works fine. Its only when the drive is idle for sometime that I cannot access any file on it. The funny part is, I can go through the drive as normal, see all my files, but when I click to open something, it will not work. I am thinking that I need to reinstall drivers and software but it seems like a common problem. Has this happened to any of you?

Could it be a USB issue?

My 500gb mybook likes to go on idle, it usually takes 3-5sec for it to wake up from its sleep state.

Have you tried a different machine?
