    Well i just purchesed a Western Digital My Book Essential Edition External Hdd(500gb) for 97$ i installed everything, and then opened it and looked at it then i noticed that there were several files and folders in it already, they were the installer files, should i keep it? i think i should just keep them, if anyone has this hdd please reply what you did.

    I deleted the files off my 1TB Western Digital My Book and it works fine

    You should keep the installer files if you need the backup software. If not, you can get rid of them, but I keep my install files on my My Book because they don't bother me. If you delete the files, you will probably also lose the WD logo that is shown as the "picture" for your drive in My Computer.

    ah then ill keep them, just in case, because i plan on getting a new 64bit operating system.

    I format every drive i get. I like a clean slate to work with. The software they give is crud anyways.

    99.999% of the time any kind of software like that can be recovered off the web site of the company it came from.

    So its not the end of the world if you delete it, however im sure it uses up almost nothing for space so its not the end of the world to leave them there.

    In conclusion just pick one or the other and do not worry about it.
