    Dear Everybody,

I would like to buy a new WDC MyBook Premium 500 GB. I would like to ask everybody, that what experiences had you with it? (Lifetime, speed, etc.)

    Thanks in advance!

Had mine for 8 months. Works fine, good speed but I hate the lack of an ON/OFF switch. It works with Auto-ON/OFF when you turn the pc on and off. it'S particularly annoying since I often put my laptop to sleep so the unit is always turnig on and off so insted I have to reach and plug/unplug it to shut it off. Other than like I like it.

I've had mine for a month now and works great. The lack of an on/off switch isn't such a big thing for me, if I want to turn it off all I have to do is unplug the usn connection and off it goes.

Thanks for the answer. If you could help me also with data, how fast it is :D ? (Some reviews stated it's very slow but I think they only forget to reformat the drive to NTFS..., so e.g. 10 Gb how many minutes?)
My other problem is that I heard about some cases, where it went wrong after some months, maybe after a year. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16822136030 I primary want to use not for bringing it with me, but to store safely my datas even for years...
Had somebody such experiences or it was just special case?
I know the warranty is 2 years, but I would buy it not from Hungary (I live there :D ), so sending back it would take some time... :(

Thanks and thanks in advance again! :D

i recently looked in to external hard drives, and read that western digital had put something on their new products that stopped you sharing files (google it for more) and that putt me right off, people complaining that they couldnt even share files they had made them self , ie taking their external drive to a friends house

i bought a 500gb sumo disk, made by freecom, i own another freecom 160 gig external ive had for a few years and its never let me down , so i stuck with freecom

google and read reviews for western digital mybooks, a lot of bad reviews , i alsoc looked in to maxtor one touch but again read a lot of bad reviews !

Actually I had some experience with a FreeCom hard-drive, which was able to start up only for the 4. time and stopped working every 2 minutes...
    So that's about FreeCom.
