I have a Western Digital Passport 120GB HDD. It seems the cable that came with it is "bad". It intermittently connects to the PC, however, it is powered on just fine. I used an 18" cable I happened to have lying around and it works just fine.

The Western Digital site has a replacement cable for $9.99 and its 18", same as the cable I found in my stash of cables. Should I be worried, or just use the new cable?

    Thanks.

Is this just a USB cable? If so, just use the one you have. That's the bonus of generic stuff.

Is it this one for $9.99?

Like SM said, you should be fine with your stashed cable. The Passport uses a USB standard-A to USB mini-B cable. I've been using my Passport's cable with other things like a PSP and digital camera.

edit- But I wouldn't go longer than an 18-inch cable or use a USB extender because the Passport won't power up.
