I am planning to remove the DVD-drive from my VPCS11 Vaio and replace it with a HDD caddy.

    Obviously the requirements are:

    • It needs to fit :)
    • !! It either needs to come with the model-specific faceplate or the available faceplate should be (nondestructively) attachable to the caddy !!

I found THIS as an option, but it would cost me about 50 euros incl. shipping costs to Europe and I might need to pay taxes on top of that too. I was hoping for a better deal...

I also found quite a few ebay offers that are quite inexpensive but I am not sure if they are any good and which one would fit and whether....

Any suggestions!? The drive currently installed is an Optiarc AD-7930H.

I mean a caddy is caddy, as long as it is the right size (9.5mm vs 12 mm) and the ODD faceplate bezel lines up..

Well.... still - any specific suggestions?

What is it I need to pay attention to?

9.5mm vs 12 mm - is that everything or are there different forms?

If I'm not mistaken, I think some caddies artificially limit you to 1.5GB/s speeds - so Z height is not the only thing to watch out for?

    Gracy123,

Sometimes, what you ask is more important than the answers you receive. :)
