    Hi,
So I was able to remove the hard drive from my fiancée's dead laptop. I believe something came loose on the motherboard for the AC adapter plug in. So I wanted to pull all the data off of her hard drive. She has this hard drive: Newegg.com - TOSHIBA MK5055GSX 500GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive

I am unsure of what hard drive enclosure that I should get. Could someone with some more knowledge on hard drives show me what we should get? I had an old enclosure but it wasn't the right configuration.

Also will I be able to access her information on the hard drive or will it not work since she has windows installed on that drive?

    Thanks for the help!

    Tim

Any 2.5" external case will work. I have an iMicro I'll send you for the postage cost(<$5)

Pretty much any cheap 2.5"enclosure should work. Even the super duper cheap ones that only cost a few bucks seem to work fine for the short-term use of pulling off important data. The iMicro for the price of postage would be quite a deal.

Will I have any trouble removing the data if windows is installed on the hard drive?

It's the same as going to drive C in my computer.

On a Windows 7 system, you may have to take ownership of the users folder where the data lives.

Right click folder, click properties, click Security, click Advanced, click Owner and click Edit - add the user or administrator you want to change the Owner to and make sure you select 'Change subfolders and folders' too.

    Good luck.
