I am about to purchase a customized Toshiba p200. I have selected all of the options i wanted on the website, but i cant figure out the processors. I have been studying them for weeks, but i don't understand it. My question is, What is the difference between the Core 2 Duos, and the Core Duos. They are both listed at the same speed, but the Core 2 Duo is about $200 more. I am on a budget, and if i settle for the Core Duo how much will i be missing out on? I Plan on using this laptop for Some work with media files (e.g Photoshop, Music, and Movies), and also some moderate gaming (e.g. World of Warcraft). Please let me know you opinions, it is greatly appreciated. Also I would be glad to hear and feedback on the laptop itself.

    Core Duo or Yonah

    Core 2 Duo or Merom

Core 2 offers 64-bit computing ability as well as the option for a 4 MB L2 cache on the T7x00 series. The Core 2 is also about 10% faster than Core clock for clock.

If the core 2 is 200 bucks more I personally would not spend the extra money, it's a bit of a waste. However, I am surprised that the price premium is so high, Core Duos have been out for close to or even for a year now; they're outdated, and now Core 2 Duos are being replaced by a new chipset, Santa Rosa.

Depending on what kind of moving files you're working with, whether you'll be encoding or not, a Core Duo may be plenty of muscle.

Summary: Core 2 Duo is not worth 200 dollars over the Core Duo for ordinary every day tasks. If you will be doing CPU intensive work then you need to consider a faster processor.

Thanks, sounds good for the work I'll be doing, but does anyone know how it will handle some gaming? I don't plan on playing any games with state of the art graphics or anything.

Either should be fine for gaming.

I recommend the Core 2 duo. The core 2 duo has slightly improved over the core duo

A Core 2 will run about 10% faster than the Core at the same clock speed. And that's it. It depends on whether it's worth it for the price, and in this case, it seems as if it's not.

$200 is a stiff price to pay for updating to Core 2 Duo ...

Go with the Core Duo if it's the same clock speed. Interesting marketing scheme by Toshiba. Perhaps they want to get rid of their older Core Duos to make some room for the new Santa Rosas?

What is the speed difference between the 1.86GHz, and the 2.0GHz core duo. And how much slower is it than any of the Core 2 Duos.

The difference is minimal. I'd also go for the T2350, it seems like the best performance for your money. $100+ for even the lowest Core 2 Duo is certainly not worth it.
