I just picked up a used HP Envy 13-1030NR and it has the factory 250gr HDD. I want to upgrade it to a SSD because I'm going to use the laptop to open large solid model files. I use solid works and auto cad a lot every day. I do a lot of manual programming as well so I do a lot of back n' forth between blueprints and cad programs. Nice thing is the cad programs are not real intense and most pc's will run them. So long story short I want to upgrade to SSD but have no idea where to start. I know HP offered a 160gb SSD option for this laptops which would be enough space for my needs. But I'm guessing SSD's have come a long ways sense then. I don't need a crap ton of space. I mean I will take it If its there but I dont want to pay extra for the extra I'm not going to use. If I'm honest 60-80gb would most likely be just fine but a bit extra won't hurt.
Thanks guys for any help you can provide.

Oh and because of the stuff I do I need to depend on my drive. I can't afford to have it go down on me. I was looking at Intel just because a lot of people say thy are great. Was looking at the intel 320 but could be way off base I don't know lol.

Another vote for Samsung 840 EVO...it's an excellent SSD.

Do thy make the EVO 840 in a 1.8" drive. This laptop can't take the 2.5" and must have 1.8"
-
Ok looks like I would need the EVO MZ-MTE120BW it's the 120GB DRIVE.
Do thy not come in a case, is it just the bord? -
I see now it's a m-sata drive and needs an adaptor to got up to a 1.8" micro-sata.

No TRIM support on mSATA EVOs. I'd pass.
Get a Micron C400 (aka Crucial M4) in the 1.8" format and call it a day.
Happy upgrading. -
1.8" double the price, few choices, thanks HP.

Self monitoring and reporting technology, I think. Basically the drive can report information about health, usage, etc.

I'd suggest re-visiting the subject matter:
AnandTech | Samsung SSD 840 EVO mSATA (120GB, 250GB, 500GB & 1TB) Review
Lack of TRIM on mSATA version of EVO is a pretty well-known bug. -
Just goes to show you can't believe everything manufactures say.

With all due respect, I do NOT trust the aforementioned utility 100% but to each their own.
As for the performance, I can't comment on a drive that you own and I don't.
I'd still pass on it.
What SSD for an envy 13
