How hot should a CPU and GPU be running in today's notebooks, I have an Asus M50VM, T9400 and 9600M GS

my temps on the CPU are 55C-57C full load and gpu is 57C idle

what temps should i be looking at?

Well, temps will differ from one notebook to another (and from one user to another). It all depends upon your usage and your notebook's architecture. Anyway your CPU temps are pretty good and the temp for the GPU is also fine.

Consider yourself a lucky man. Your CPU will outlive you at those temps.

The GPU is average temp at idle, while the CPU is a bit high. The GPU will outlive the CPU as it is designed to withstand much higher temps (100+ deg C - in theory lol, wouldnt want to boil water on that though).

CPU: 55/57*C at full load is pretty low. I hit 75*C when at full load.

65nm Merom Core 2 Duos are allowed to go up to 100C while 45nm Penryn Core 2 Duos are rated up to 105C.

Sorry misread the CPU, thought it was at idle. At load that is pretty low, your room is probably quite cool...
