I am looking for upgrades for my acer aspire 5251-1940. Recently bought it. It is running Linux Debian 8.3. What are good upgrades for the ram and processor? Also how hard is it to intsall these components on laptops. I have lots of tools and work with my hands a lot. Thanks for any info.

Six year plus notebook with an AMD processor with 10 year old 'performance'?

Sell it as is and buy any current Intel based platform instead.

Indeed. At least step up to used Intel Core i3 or higher first gen or newer at minimum if budget an issue.
