I have a 2 year old notebook, a Compaq R3000.
It was functioning perfectly until today...I turned it on but the light which indicates that it is being charged just blinks....I take the bettery out and use only AC power...No blinking..when i put the battery in...blinking...
So basically it just blinks when i power on...and When the bettery is gone I get no blinking..
Any idea what it could be? I figure it is probably the battery or even the charger...any suggestions?

Maybe it mean that the battery is getting old..
-
blinking usually means charging
steady means fully charged
do you have access to an owner's manual? -

Well, as one uses a battery, the strength and duration of the charge begins to deteriorate. The more it gets charged the less life it will have. Eventually, the battery will have so little life that you need a new one. Thats the main way that I know my battery is going. (IE 3 hours unplugged --> 1 hour unplugged) etc.

I had a toshiba satellite a long time ago, and the battery life went from originally 3+ hours to about 10-15 minutes in about 2 years. -
Well, can you boot your laptop on battery (no AC)? Does it run on battery for an extended amount of time? If you answered no to one or more of these questions, odds are, your battery has died.
-
or the connection between the battery and laptop could be loose/ dodgey

my compaq has three indicators on the status of battery.
1. blinking in orange color= low battery status (needs recharging)
2. steady orange color= the battery is charging
3. steady light green= battery is fully charged
Ultraman,
The problem can be either on your lappy or your battery. If you can, try borrowing the same battery from your friend. if the battery is charging while you plug in ac, then you can be sure that the problem is in your battery and you should consider buying a new battery pack.
What are signs and symptoms to when your battery is dead?
