I will be testing the Sandisk 32Gb SSD against a 160 GB 7.2RPM in the next week after so many requests for an accurate test between the two.

I will betesting their performance in a M1330 as well as the difference in battery life between the SSD and HD. Conditons between the two will be measured and exact.

I am looking for two other programs, similar to HDTune that will do similar testing.

    Any suggestions?

Im hoping to make this tetsing a regular thing and test the 64Gb Samsung in a comparison test shortly after that followed by a 128Gb SSD before years end.

Tx ahead for the assistance and see my review of the 32Gb below if your interested in my prelim test.

Im running 64Bit with the below system if that matters.

Im not a fan of hibernation as i dont use it at all...Can yuou give me a bit of a background on your feelings of it and why you would want it included?

Edit: And although that link is good, it doesn't provide me with a method of doing a thorough comparison (unless they are going to create a program I can find)

Well I use hibernation a lot and it provides a real world benchmark. just like booting. it is very HD dependant.

On the Storage review site they explain how they benchmark applications:
Office DriveMark 2006- A capture of VeriTest's Business Winstone 2004 suite.

That's the benchmark they use. I don't know if that particular one is the best one, but i just wanted to provide an example of a benchmark that simulates real life performance.

HD Tach is good, I prefer HDTUNE, I feel it is easier to understand, and it tells you everything about your hard drive.

Sandra is good, but the results are not as exact as either HDTune or HDtach's results.

bytheway, if possible I would prefer to see a 200GB harddrive instead of 160GB.

because of the higher data density they tend to perform better. at least i think it's that way with Hitachi travelstar 7K200.

What I want to see is a review of the SSD technology in general.
    Ex.Defragmenting; saving large files; Battery life;Boot up;etc

I did that somewhat in my original article (below). I have recently been negotiating and may soon enough be testing a Samsung 64Gb followed by (gulp) the as of yet not released, 128Gb SSD!!!

I get all excited just thinking of being the first on the web to do a review of that one which is what Im trying for...

Do you have to defrag? If you do, how often?

I can defrag my USB stick. You defrag as much as you defrag anything else if you feel like it, but with higher RA and throughput it is likely less important.

There is little defragmentation with the SSD. It is safe to defragment as well.

With a HD, you can defrag it twice a day and each time it will take you an hour.

I am defragging my ssd on average once a week and it takes 5 minutes max...I am going to have to go even longer.
