I am ordering a laptop for college and I can customize it on the HP website. It comes with a 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery. For $20 more dollars I can upgrade to a 9 cell Lithium Ion Battery. I think it is a no brainer to get the longer lasting battery, but I saw on a different website someone said they ordered a 9 cell battery and it protrudes out the back. They said it looked very ugly. Is this the case with all laptops? This is the laptop I am looking at. Thanks for any help!

It protrudes out the back and actually offers several advantages:
(1) longer battery life (duh)
(2) raises the back end of the laptop for improved cooling and better typing angle
(3) makes a convenient handle when picking it up
If looks concern you then deal with a 6-cell. The one thing I don't like about the 9-cell on my DV6 is that laptop coolers already prop up your notebook at an angle, so the 9-cell only makes it more extreme. Next time I get an HP though I'll likely order both the 6-cell and 9-cell. -
It makes the laptop heavier and physically larger. It also doesn't look as clean with the larger battery, but that shouldn't really matter. Do you want the extra battery capacity or not?

Thanks! Is the 9 cell battery removable?

Easily removable, swap it out in 5 seconds flat.

What battery should I get?
