My poor old dear laptop suffered an accident involving tea, and I fried some chips from the motherboard. Been changing stuff, but at the end, it seems I cannot find which ones failed, so I´ll assume the motherboard is fried as a whole.
Any suggestions to get something of the other parts. I mean, I know I can use the RAM, HD, and those stuff, but I wonder if I can do anything with the vcard, or with the screen (for example).
It was a loved Asus Z96J, with a Merom CPU, a x1600 GPU and a 15" 1680x1024 screen, which are so rare to find these days.
Thanks for the wise suggestions and condolences (no kidding, I really got attached, I guess cause it was the first great PC I got, I enjoyed it so much and it never failed me (except for the tea-proofing...)).

You can take it to some electronic repair store at least to confirm it is dead and not only sleeping
.
Only chance i can see some use is if you can get a second hand board for it.
Maybe even ask Asus if they have some remaining. -
I already took it. They try a bunch of stuff but none of them worked.
No way to connect the screen somewhere else, for instance? -
its dead.. don't waste more money.. time to get a new laptop.. if u miss it so much , put in a display case

Could try to part it out, although I doubt many people want to touch parts that are potentially water-damaged and/or fried.
-
It seems finished then.
Put the parts for selling if you have time in your hands in Asus forums and ebay.
But time is money too if you lack it. -
If you sincerely love this thing, and don't have the cash to buy a new notebook, just buy a new mobo. Could probably pick one up for a $100+.
I can honestly say, I'm so attached to my Latitude, that if anything happened to it, I'd do anything in my power to get it back, -

I once had to give up on my beloved Toshiba Satellite P25-S676 after months of grueling resurrection attempts. I did everything from multiple total tear down and reassembly, baked the gpu, resoldered problem joints, and even reballed the northbridge. A mobo replacement was just too expensive and not worth it for an Old Bessie (the notebook was mfg-ed in 2004).
Try to do what you can that is within your budget and time allowance, but also keep it real and think if it is worth the salvage. If not, then just store it in your hall of fame and move on. I know I had to, and I'm very happy with my upgrade. Good luck. -
Yeah I'd say your best bet is to sell the whole unit sans HDD on ebay as a for parts unit with a description of the events so everything is out in the open. Make sure you sell it as is with no guarantee anything will work. You could get more by parting it out individually but then again you don't know what's fried so if someone just buys a single part and it's fried that is a bit harder to do than to just sell the whole thing on the understanding some things are fried.

I think your best option is exactly what FFCBairn said.

If you have an artistic vein try to make it part of an "object du art".How I don't know.Improvise.Otherwise recycle it.....
-
but OP, what barin has said is ur best option.. you could keep the body+ scren if u miss the laptop so much. -
What can I do with my poor broken laptop?
