Hi. I'm trying to pick a laptop adn i've found the HP tx20 but it has an AMD TL-60 processor. I'm not really sure what this means, what Intel processor can i compare this to?

Probably a 1.66-1.8 GHz Core 2. Such as a T5450.
-
As a rule of hand. When im comparing an AMD mobile processor to a core duo or intel processor. An AMD will perform equal to an Intel with approximately say .3-.4+ slower clock speed then itself. The architecture is much less "efficient" then intels

It depends on the task, AMD can do some things faster. But overall about 20% so a TL-60 at 2Ghz is about equal to a 1.6 Core 2 Duo. And C2D use less power and produce less heat.

I used to love AMD's. It seems however they have really fallen behind lately especially when it comes to Mobile processors.
-
they have. but remember amd still has not updated it lineup in the mobile sector once they do there chips will be more compareable. I tend to lean towards a 1.8 intel = 2.0ghz amd, but that is subjective. the amd tl60 is a very capable processor, for almost all tasks you would not tell the difference a 2.0ghz intel and a 2.0ghz amd

Guide in sig.

EXACTLY. The only way you will notice is either if your doing very very intensive A/V editing etc. or if your using a Synthetic benchmark. Otherwise not too big of a difference other then heating, battery life and other things of that nature.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015

I agree with all above but have to say as the proud owner of a AMD Turion X2 that I gave a very close "real world" view. The AMD's beat the Core Duos but the Core 2 Duos are newer and better. I have seen many test including non synthetic benchmarks. Only 24hrs in the day. Link, have a look lots of fun!

I'm not even sure why people compare X2s to Meroms; the X2s were after all released at the time of the Core Duo. If anything, people should just realize that AMD isn't putting up any competitor against the Core 2 Duo. In fact, I'm starting to suspect that AMD will change its focus from mobile CPUs.

First release of Turion X2's - May 17, 2006.
First release of Merom Core 2 Duos - July 27, 2006.
First release of Tyler Turion refresh (65 nm) - May, 2007. -
What is your point? A refresh? Come on Lithus! The Turions were capable vs CD's Intel has the advantage so please get your boot off my neck! Intel wins in much, ability to roll new lines out, what are you saying?
-
What am I saying? I can't ever understand what the heck you're saying. My response was to bc135.
-
He was saying that it is not fair to say that because AMD came out with a refresh model they should be directly compared to C2D's
-
In terms of architecture; no, the X2s and Core 2 Duos are not comparable. Simply refreshing the X2 line with a 65nm manufacturing process does not make one CPU equal to another.
-
No, not at all. And that wasn't my point either. The ORIGINAL Turion X2's and Core 2 Duos were released within a month of each other, while the Core Duos were released January, 2006. This contradicts your previous statement.

What can the AMD TL-60 be compared to?
