It won't power on only when the power adapter's plugged in. The Toshiba logo flashes for a split second and then it immediately powers down.
When it isn't connected to the power cable, it functions normally. The power cable charges it normally and functions properly as long as it is plugged in after being booted.
I assume the computer was shipped this way and I just noticed it now because I rarely restart it, especially when connected to the wall. It's relatively new so having it repaired won't be a problem, I'm just curious as to what could cause this because I've never heard of anything like it.

Have you tried a known good AC adapter? Could be a short in the AC adapter or motherboard.

Best Buy was more than happy to refund the money, the only problem was that I got one of those awesome Christmas deals and they no longer carry or can order the computer.
So my only option was to either have the Geek Squad repair it for free or get the refund and spend at least $150 more for a computer with the same specs from virtually any retailer. -

hmmm, so it doesn't work on battery at all?
For something so new, it is a shame. I'm weary of geeksquad touching anything. I'd let them do it if i got a guarantee that if they messed it up more or didn't fix it, you get your money back -
It only fails to boot when the power cable is connected. To get the computer on you have to remove the A/C adapter before pressing the power button. As I said before, the cable charges the battery and uses power from the socket just like any other laptop as long as it isn't booted while connected to the wall. -

oh i misunderstood. How interesting.
What is your make of Toshiba? I found this: Apparently this is a common issue with some toshiba laptops.."the core voltage controller is at fault which is a capacitor on the side of your CPU". This means a motherboard change
