So I upgraded the ram in my laptop a few weeks ago. And I was just wondering what do I do with the old ram sticks? Just throw them out in the trash or do I recycle them?
I don't really need to keep them since my new ram works fine (been 3 weeks no problems), and the laptops out of warranty so I won't need to send it in with my old ram ever again.

You could try to ebay/craigslist it, or give it to a PCRecycle company or something.

You could try selling it as noted; go on eBay and see what you can get for it first though. I used to sell RAM in the past but now I keep it since I hardly get any money for it.
Now would probably be a good time to sell it though if you want to go that route since people are going back to school, etc and want to upgrade their systems.
If you don't want to sell it or keep it, see if any of your friends has a computer that will take the RAM. -
Ram is hard to sell as most systems come standard with the amount you're trying to sell anywyay.
I normally just keep my old ram as backup just in case. -
Thanks for the tips. I found a local PC Recycling company, since I don't live in Seattle/Maryland. So I guess it'll be a lot more "greener" to drop it off there instead of throwing it in the trash.
And I doubt I'd make any money selling some 512 mb DDR2 Ram sticks. Technology these days
Thanks once again! -
I just dumped a pile of 1Gb sticks (desktop and laptop) on one of the local schoold. I'm keeping 2Gb/4Gb sticks for now.
Also just cleared out my last 32 bit system from home. Loaded it up with a handful of 120 Gb drives, put Fedora and Apache on it, gave it to the local school to use in their server classes.
With the price of new hardware being pushed down every day, about the only way to get any 'value' from old stuff is to donate it for a tax deduction. -
Suffice to say, nothing is worse than buying new components, throwing out or selling the old ones, and finding out months later that you wish you hadn't when your computer starts acting funny and you don't have the means to swap out hardware to pinpoint hardware failures.

They'll pretty much take anything and everything, including printers and old CRT monitors. Whatever they cannot salvage to refurbish computers with, they send to a computer recycling center for disposal. -
