I saw a clip on CNET TV about Bamboo laptops. Do you think that is a good idea?

Uh, wrong forum, moved to.....uhhh, Hardware I guess.

And hard to say, bamboo isn't known for heat dissapation...

If anything, it'll be cheap and eco-friendly, bamboo grows at 5cm per day.

Nothing says eco-friendly like encasing consumer electronics in bamboo. he he

Can the bamboo still grow? I'd hate to spill water on the thing, and have it all warped. Then again, if I give it a little sprinkle every few days, can I turn a 13.3" laptop into a 15.4" one?

can't say it is all around good, but niether can I say it's all around bad. If it does prove to be a possible reality, I think we will find a number or bamboo farms poping up everywhere.

Hmm... making a notebook out of flammable material  ...NOT a good idea!

Imagine what would happen if say for instance a lithium cell some how blew out or the notebook motherboard short circuited from someone accidentally spilling a liquid on the notebook? That thing would go up like fire wood :D unless they somehow treated the bamboo with a fire retardant, and I wouldn't want those chemicals on my hands when I used my notebook.

This idea will never take off, IMHO they should just stick with either plastic, aluminum or carbon fiber...

They've made warplanes out of wood in WW2, so it's not that bad of an idea. Humidity may be a problem in the long run, as hinted by La Caja.

    wood's great :)
I came across wooden notebooks a few weeks ago. I will see if I can find the link.
My next paintjob is going to be wood, I want the whole thing (keys included) to look like it is made of old weathered barn wood.

EDIT ... Old wood that is all grey and bleached with age, nail holes with rust stains on the wood. My mom does a lot of art projects for sale and herself ... stained glass, etched glass, and various things from wood out of an old barn on thier property(picture frames, state shaped art, and just cute little country wall art). That is where I got the idea.

    LOL
Plus bamboo will look very cool, use it as a piece of art instead of firewood.
