What ext storage are you using for your laptop: 2.5'' vs 3.5''?

I think 2.5'' makes a lot more sense for laptop owners. For one, it doesnt require AC power and runs off USB. Second, its smaller and more portable.

To me 3.5'' ext HDs are best suited for desktops. Theyre just too big and cumbersome (plus the power cord) to carry around if need to be.

Also if its smaller I just throw it on my 16GB flash drive.

At this time I have an MX-1 holding a 2TB Western Digital Green drive and a Rosewill enclosure holding a 1TB WD Green. Another 2TB WD Green and MX-1 are in the mail.

I have spare Hitachi 7k500 that I picked up at Fry's a couple days ago that I might throw into an enclosure.

I really should learn how to set up a NAS, though.

My Kingston DTI/32GB and Seagate ST9250410ASG in an Antec MX-25 serve as my shuttles. My three Seagate ST32000644NS's each in their own Antec MX-1 serve as my main archive.

I'm currently using an Iocell NDAS drive. I've been using NDAS by Ximeta for years. It's kind of like NAS in that it runs on your network but is considerably different in the way it operates. It's also generally faster than most of the cheaper to midrange NAS devices. I get about 50MB/s with the drive attached to my gigabit switch. I also use an external 2.5" USB drive for when I'm on the road.

I have an external dock that works with 2.5 and 3.5 drives, in addition to a 2tb 3.5 external and a flash drive.

So, no "all of the above" option?

Yeah I'd second "all of the above". I've got 3 3.5 500GB for archival and a 2.5 500GB for day to day storage. Not to mention a couple of memory sticks and the like as well.

Same. I also have quite a few flash drives including 2 8gb ones that I keep on my keychain and a bunch of 2-4gb ones lying around.

Can't really vote as I have both 2.5" and 3.5" drives. I also use a home server for music and pictures rather than keeping that junk on my local drive.

My first external drive was 3.5", but all the others after that are 2.5", so I vote 2.5".
