Poked around on google then on here and I cant seem to find the info i'm looking for.

I know it is for docking stations which will allow you to attach other devices to the laptop, but the information I want to know is how many PCI-Express lanes it uses. 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, more?

    Thanks.

Oh yeah, might be a neat idea to sticky a "Peripheral tech specs" thread which contains info like that...

Apparently expansion port 3 is a propriatery name HP gave to a port on laptops that allows them to be hooked up to one of their docking bays. Dont expect nothing much out of it since it's proprietary. I have an old Compaq and it has an "expansion port" and all it's really for is to connect it's own docking bay.

BUT, how many PCI-E lanes does it support?

    Thats all i'm asking.

The Google link (I was in about 6 or 7 pages before I gave up) answered about as much as you guys have so far.. and if you read what I posted I already knew that stuff (although I didnt say it was limited to HP laptops, guess I should have).

My laptop (Pavilion zd7377EA) has an expansion port 3 (i guess it's only for HP laptop), as well as my future laptop (HP Pavilion HDX). It connect to expansion bay, and all-in-one cable. I guess it's for adding more ports.
