    Hi all,

Can anyone tell me what Solid-State Disk is?

What is the difference with general hard disk installed within many notebooks nowadays?

And what makes it so expensive?

Also, if compared with 15k rpm speed hard disk, which has the best performance?

    Thanks in advance

basically its a flash means of storage (like in your usbs), unlike hard drives which use spinning platters. SSD vs 15k HD? Depends on what ssd and what particular hd you're talking about, and unless you buy an scsi adapter for your computer, then no 15k hds are available. There are no 15k laptop hds.

you should read the sticky at the top of this forum, or pm Les.

What is SSD? It's the future of storage. The next best thing. Excellent performance. Highly Expensive. But then again the better the performace, the higher the costs....

I think the biggest differences between them and HDDs are the Speed (In every way..boot up time/read/write), Shock Resistance, Reliability (Performance), Heat generated, Batt. life of computer, Storage Space (for now), and the Cost.

As for which one's better...IMO from what i've seen i'll say definitely the SSD.

I say do some searches throughout the forum on SSD for more info.

SSD is definitely amazing, but the cost vs. space is pretty high. If you really want it then go ahead, but it's really expensive even for a small one.
