Hey everyone i want to get a new 15' laptop. My old laptop is 15.4' and i know laptops now are either 15.5 or 15.6'. I see most 15 inch laptops reviews usually say the battery life is poor compared to those 13.3 laptops because they are portable and can do 8 hours.

My question is what is the standard battery life for a 15.5' laptop these days? How many hours is considered really poor and how many is considered real good?

Depends on the notebook and what's inside it. While it is true that the larger the screen, the lesser the battery life, there's still numerous other factors which can affect battery life, notably the components. If you have lots of ULV components, your notebook will have a better battery life than if you have standard components. For standard components, 2-4h seems like a good ballpark.

Some get 2 hours(ALienware m15x), some get 8(Asus UL50VF). It depends on what specs it has.

Your question is like if I asked you how many MPG does a car get? Depends on if its a muscle car or a eco box.

He's asking for the average. I'd say 3 hours on average.

A better way to ask your question OP, is to first categorize your notebook in terms of it's performance (i.e. gaming, business etc.) That way, you're on more equal ground when it comes to determining how long the battery will last, and how well it performs in comparison to the competition.

For the average 15'' notebook, not ULV and not gaming, 3 hours is about what you get.
