    What is better: 1GB DDR-2 533MHz (1 stick Samsung), or 1,5 GB DDR-2 400Mhz (1GB DDR-2 533MHZ samsung + 512MB DDR-2 400MHZ samsung)? Thanks

i think over all the 1.5GHZ but for just smile things like web and word the 533 would be better bc it can let aplications load slightly faster

Well, it will depend on the processor. If, for example, you are using a Celeron, then the 1.5 GB, with 400 Mhz FSb, then that memory will be enough. But if your using a Core Duo or a Core 2 Duo, which uses a 667 MHz FSB, then 400 Mhz memory, will result in slow performance. I'm not to sure about AMD, as i haven't looked into it.

In the past, there have also been some notebooks using 400 Mhz memory with a Pentium M, that uses a 533 Mhz FSB. I'm not to sure if that slows performance, but i would wager that it probably would.

1.5GB will offer a larger performance boost.

I don't believe the Core Duo/Core 2 Duo support DDR2-400 RAM, so we're probably talking about a Pentium M machine here. Go for 1.5GB, more RAM is better.

True, but getting them to run under dual channel would probably be best. Although not what the OP is asking, I suggest you try to get two of the same RAM, eg 2x 512 or 2x 1GB.

If you can't get 2x1gb, but can afford 1gb+512mb - get that. An extra 512mb is better than having 2x512, even if it is running in dual channel

In most notebook computers, the performance bottleneck will be found at either the hard drive, a mechanical device, or the system bus. Running Windows XP, 1GB of RAM is perfect, and the fact that it runs at 533MHz as opposed to 400MHz makes it all the better. If you upgraded from 1GB to 1.5GB, you wouldn't see any difference. Take it from me.
