    1GB DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHZ, 2 DIMM $150

    2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHZ, 2 DIMM $110

getting a dell 6400 want to do little gaming on it and tend to open tons of internet windows and pics at once. Also is it better to get ram installed by dell or buy it on your own and get it installed?

Quantity is better, because the faster speed isn't going to really buy you anything because of latencies.

$110 for 2GB isn't bad at all...I'd say let them do it.

My advice to you buy your own memory on the outside and don't buy any extra memory from Dell. Those memory prices you posted are a rip off based on the current DRAM market if you ask me especially for that 1Gb  !

You can get 2Gb(2 x 1Gb) of 667mhz ram from crucial right now for $87.99, strangely enough the 533mhz version cost the same as well :) . And if you are really adventurous there are some websites that have prices a few $$ lower than that so if you did some searching you can find some really good deals. However if you are the kind that doesn't mind paying dell a higher price inorder to get everything one time then it is up to you...

One of the RAM slots is under the keyboard. It is a little more difficult to reach, but not that much more difficult.
