I'm getting really fustrated with my laptop ive just puchased.
I'm pretty much (i guess) happy with everything (the keyboard a bit ****, its really heavy, the procesor speed is fine..)
But these issues dont bother me that much accept the screen.
I was led to believe that the screen and the keyboard were good (its a toshiba satellite pro m40)
The screen, which is really p****** me off is it seems the viewing angle is extremely bad, because when im sitting infront of it, i cannot ever get the correct angle so that the screen isn't going inverted, and if its not going inverted (if i tilt it too low) then the brightness comes up..
The main problem is that the screen has this brightness at the bottom of the screen and is always visible. it's like someones shinning a torch from the bottom to the top (where it fades out).. You see, the top is fine, and the black is black, but to make the bottom of the screen to go black how it SHOULD be, i have to tilt th screen really far back (away from the closed position) .. but of course then, the top of the screen makes the colours go inverted.
Of course, i can't take this back now because i bought it online and i dont have any money.
Ive tried tweaking the settings in the radeon CP, but nothing works, there's just a constant glare/brightness thing going on.
What can i do?... my mother has an LCD down stairs, and i have not noticed the same with that.
This is really making me depressed and pissed off because ive just got down into watching my favorite tv programs and movies which was what i intended this laptop for, but now i notice its **** at watching movies and so on.

What kind of system is this?
-
its a toshiba satellite pro m40

laptop LCDs are lit by a light from the bottom always because they are too thin for lights at the back like in desktop LCD screens.
I dont think there is a way of fixing ur poor viewing angles.. sorry! -
are you telling me every single laptop screen has massive light leakage from the bottom to half way to the top?
This screen is basically so bad that the (what should be black) is litrally silver/grey, it is that bad. -
Not most, but there are always some. The better notebooks(Well, not better, usually more expensive) has less.
Basically, you are stuck with it. Not much you can do... -
because i can if i want..
the trouble with my laptop is with this light as i say, but also the keyboard is pretty naff, and the speakers are pants, and also (a main focus) is the soundcard (its a realtek ac97) and its DIABOLICAL. its wierd, because when i put in my headphones (sennheiser ones) expecting good quality (satis factory--44.1hz) i get this tinny (no bass) sound through them.
So, i gotta turn on this "trubass" and srs s***, where i get bass through my headphones but it like emphasises it and lowers the high's of the frequencies.
There's a travelmate which i have my eye on and it mentions in its specs about a soundblaster (good one).. Also, this laptop has a headphones socket at the front which is a terrible placement. -
Well i think if you wanna take it back you should....you shouldnt be stuck with a product you dont want. There are plenty of notebooks out there for you to choose from.
As far as actually being able to return it, it never hurts to try!! -

If yours is clearly defective, by all means, do what you can to either get it replaced or get your money back. -
I do think you should really get an idea of what your options are at Best Buy or another computer store. I think the Sony FE series has the best display by far. -
I went into staples (store) and saw this one called a gateway, mx3220b and the screen looks really nice, but oddily i can't find ANY info on it at all online!.. accept one website which points to staples! -
meh dont buy gateway..
I think my acer aspire screen is great! Sony make the best screens in my opinion -
the gateway looks really nice infact. -
There is something definitely wrong with that lcd on the Toshiba. You shouldn't notice any difference in the brightness from bottom to top - nothing that would cause you to comment on it anyway.
My daughter has had a Gateway Solo 5300 for over 5 years and it still runs great. If you like the Gateway and can buy it at a retail store, which you prefer to do, go for it. Plus you can examine the store display unit and see if it is satisfactory. -
gateway were good back then. but now they're cheap ****py stuff.

Rawr, Sony does NOT make the best screens. Guys please remember they don't make their own screens they outsource just like many, many and most other manufacturers from another company to get their panels.
Cheers,
Mike
