I am not finding any satisfying Google info on this, anyone have any links or knowledge. I am debating on holding off getting a laptop until next month but the truth is I want to be fragging during the Labor Day holidays.

    Thanks

Merom is the codename for a new mobile processor by Intel, named the Core 2 Duo when it comes out. It offers a small (generally unnoticeable) power boost without affecting battery life, and adds 64 bit capability.

Well its funny that you should be the person to reply as I am interested in the HP nc8430. What I am most confused about MEROM is that that there are current processors that can upgraded via the BIOS. Can you elaborate?

Let's just clarify that we are talking about MEROM which is the recent intel mobile processor dubbed Core 2 Duo. With a BIOS update, the Yonah processors (Core Duo) can be replaced with a Merom processor (Core 2 Duo) but it may void your warranty unless it is somehow a certified manufacturers upgrade.

Yeah i wouldn't bother wiating, the speed incrase is so nominal, that if your not doing heavy media encoding, it's not going to make a difference realistically.

Most current Core Duo systems have been tested and been found to be compatible with Merom or Core 2 Duo CPUs. Some require a BIOS upgrade but others are simply drop-in compatible. Meaning you can replace your Core Duo processor with a Core 2 Duo processor very easily should you decide to do so.

I don't think it's worth the expense, and feel that Core Duo is plenty fast for the life of your noteook if you already have one. If you don't have one yet and can wait a couple of months, you may want to wait.
