But in summation, Best Buy follows the policies set by the manufacturer of the product in question when it comes to service plans. If its within the return policy, a caring representative might waive the restocking fee for you in an exchange, but don't count on it -- its not official policy to do so.

You will have to let us know what store you work at Plazmic so we can Avoid it like the plague
.

I'm not trying to pry BTW, just making a friendly suggestion. -
I'm actually not currently employed by a Best Buy store. And I'm not representing myself as Best Buy, that was more of a "I am the Law" - Judge Dredd.

thats why i said do punch and run -
You can also yell "Racist Pig(s)" depending on the races involved. -

guys, can you keep a secret?

There's a difference between dead pixels and stuck (lit) ones. Pretty much all the tricks you read about-- software, tapping methods are for stuck pixels.
Has anyone asked Best Buy to see if you can try out the laptop (ie. view the screen with a dead pixel tester) before you buy it? It would definitely be worth going to a brick and mortar store for that. -
I see dead pixels!
Heh.. seriously now you have a 1440x899 resolution screen. Not the 1440x900 you paid for! -

My Macbook Pro has no overclock, and the GPU has gotten as high as 93 degrees Celsius while playing Supreme Commander on dual screens.
Single screen, I think my max temp is about 89 degrees Celsius while playing HL2 or Company of Heroes. Serious idle can be 65 degrees Celsius, with web-surf idle at something like 75 degrees Celsius.
The 8600m GT + the MBP cooling system generate a serious heat load, still not as much as an Asus G1S, though. Those things were always up in the 95 degree Celsius range. -
the longer a GPU stays in dangerous temps (90-95+ C), the shorter the lifespan.

Not arguing because I don't really know. Just noticed a different opinion.
With no personal experience one should keep quiet ... advice to self. -
btw
dude working at bestbuy or circuit city does not give you any any personal experience maybe find a real I.T. job or I.S. job then talk to me -
Rofl disable all services then restart :O
-
lol yeah i have to update it
disable on services that are ram\bandwidth hungry and so on -
Alas, my first time being mistaken for a Best Buy employee.
Back to stuck pixels. -

I know that even though it says I get 200GB that I really only get like 170-180GB but I've uninstalled all the bloatware and only installed like 10GB of stuff and I'm down to 98GB, I should have atleast 140-150GB... WHERE IS IT!!!
-
You shouldnt go losing HDD space like that, its very wasteful. TBH about 15GB is for windows like system files, page file, hibernate, and few other things. The rest? System restore? Shadow copies? Try using disk clean up to see how much you get.
-
You only get 186GB because of the 1024Bytes->1024KB->1024MB->1GB confusion. Read the link above, don't feel like explaining it again.
Have you checked for other partitions? There could be a number of partitions created out of the factory by Gateway, ie; DVD/movie/media bootup features, or recovery partitions that could take up quite a bit of space 20GB or so.
So basically if I take a guess, this is how your harddrive is being used:
Vista 15GB + 9GB Pagefile & hibernate + 20GB Programs & Applications + 20GB recovery partition & Media Boot feature + 98GB Free space = 152GB
152GB - 186GB = -24GB
So you don't know where 24GB is. That's not a whole lot there, that space can be taken up by temp files, drivers, setup files, update files etc. -
back to pixels -
I have the same problem too, my 320GB hard drive turned into a 287gb hard drive after everything was installed, with only 238gb free. after reading the link i guess i'm only missing 10gb...
-
There is a guide called something like 'What did Vista do with my harddrive space?'. I forgot where it is. If someone could link it it would be useful.
-
-
did you try massaging the pixel?
What is a pixel massage? -
-
-
-
-
How would I force the stuck pixel program (jar) to operate on screen #2?
Pixel massage did not work for me. -
Right now I have the Gateway M-6864 FX but I've been thinking about returning it to Best Buy and putting the $850 from that towards http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8906133&type=product&id=1213046768588 of course I will wait for it to go on sale again to $1,000 but how much of a gaming improvement would I get?
ATI Mobility Radeon 2600 HD 512MV DDR3 vs. NVIDIA GeForce G9700M GT 512MB DDR3
1280x800 res. vs. 1366x768 res.
Those seem to be the only differences, they both have the same CPU and same HDD space/speed.
What is taking up hard drive space!?
