My z coming soon, and I'm thinking about swapping the HD to a 7200 RPM one.

Any recommendation? I need the 1 with large capacity and best performance. Thanks.

any of the 7200rpm 320gb ones... they are the highest performing so far:
    7k320
    wd3200bekt
    7200.3

or if you can wait a few months the 7200.4 should be coming out (500gb / 7200rpm)

Based on the reports and reviews I've read I think WD3200BEKT is the fastest. Check for more info: http://www.techreport.com/articles.x/15079

But you may want to wait for Seagate 7200.4 500gb that is expected to arrive january.

I hear it's between the WD3200BEKT and the 7200.3 but I'd go with the WD.

    I bought the Seagate 7200.3 (ST9320421ASG)

The feature that I liked best was the free-fall sensor called G-FORCE PROTECTION

Most of the reviews I read put them all pretty close, I personally went with the scorpio black, but i wouldn't have hesitated to get the seagate (was able to buy the scorpio at microcenter in store so i went with it)

Pardon me for jumping in. I did a google search and found this thread. I just got a VGN-Z540 and want to swap out the HDD with a 500GB Seagate Momentual 7200.4 from Newegg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148374

Araharja, I took a look at the bottom of the Z540 and didn't see a HDD cover, nor did I find a z series repair manual online. Do you have any instructions on replacing the HDD? Thanks.

Dude, Garetjax hit the nail on the head. I'm looking for a repair manual or directions on how to swap out the hard drive on the Z series.

Chunlianghere, that may be correct but I'd like to hear from someone to be sure. I've built computers in the past and taken apart a couple of notebooks. But I've always had a repair manual for notebooks before tearing them apart. Since the notebook's brand new, I really don't feel like doing this blindly.
