All I could find is the Sony Optiarc BD-5730S-01 6X SATA Slim Blu-Ray Writer/Drive or the Panasonic UJ-235A Blu-ray BD-ROM on Amazon
Any other suggestions??

This is kind of one of those things that either works or doesn't. Most people with blu-ray drives get them pre-installed and what brand or model is really just an afterthought.
Anyway, aftermarket slim DVD and CD drives are plentiful, but like you I can't find any other blu-ray ones. -
Slot BD Drive choice is quite limited. Tray BD Drive choice is more plentiful. If those are the only two you could find, get Panasonic. It has a larger buffer.

I would go with Sony. I am currently using a Sony 5500s and it is very good.

agree , i'm using the same one... i expect sony products to be better than panasonic ones and so far the sony ones seem to be more plentiful and better...

My experience with Sony Drive is less than satisfactory. I bought BC-5500A and tried to play Disney Blu-ray Pinocchio. It takes a long time to go navigate between menus. It takes a long time to load. I replaced the drive with Matsh1ta/Panasonic UJ-120. With the new drive, Pinocchio loaded almost instantly. It's almost as if it runs from the hard drive.

well i don't know... i'm quite shocked that u got such lousy performance as sony is supposed to be great brand with excellent products.

That used to be the case, but no longer. Sony products have lagged over the past few years, and like used to be king of computers Dell, have lost most of it's industry leading standard. At presents, Panasonic is leader of the pack and trumps Sony in many HD departments including their BD drives.
Still, it can be argued in some cases, as a matter of opinion and taste, but for my money, I'd choose the Panasonic product without hesitation.
What is the best Blu-ray drive for a laptop?
