What is the best form factor(s) to carry?
Here are some ideas I have heard
0.13+ inch tablet + a tablet like ipad. Most traditional tablet owners I think are like this.
1. Surface pro 2 alone. Problems: limited battery and screen size. Requires alot of peripherals like ethernet,
2. A 13 inch convertible. Problems: can't really hold it like a tablet. Needs a desk.
3. Something I thought about was maybe a 10.1 inch bay trail tablet like q648 or surface pro 2 + another tablet either 8 or 10 inch with stand case and air view so you get portability of a 10.1 tablet + extra portable screen real estate + casual use with the lighter tablet. What do you think would be the problems with this idea? Is it actually just too slow in practice to carry around the second tablet as a monitor?
4. What do you carry around and what are the best and worst parts of the form factors you carry?

It totally depends on what you use it for. I carry different things at different times for different purposes.
There is no one size fits all. -
In fact, the 17" is the standard form factor for media and content creators. Its just that "other" lean towards the Mac persuasion. -
The question you first have to ask yourself is what do I need. Make a list of the features that you need. Then move to what you want, but that isn't strictly needed. Then, decide what form factor or form factors work best for you.
Personally, I need a real laptop that is comfortable to type with first, I need VGA for projectors (where I usually work, they aren't going away anytime soon). That means laptop and with the usable screen real estate I like to work with that means 15"-17" primarily. The rest is a bonus, the Thinkpad Tablet 2 that I use to take notes in the labs is useful, but I could do with notebooks. It would be more cumbersome, but workable, so if I only had to buy one device, it would be a laptop and that is the end of it. The compromise would be a traditional TabletPC with a digitizer so that I can take lab notes, dock it with an external monitor, etc.
I happen to own all three of those things and guess which device I use the most? The Precision for the reasons mentioned above. I carry the thing with me daily and it isn't an issue. Heck I can carry it with a few textbooks, the thicker than an inch kind and it isn't an issue. You just have to use the right backpack.
I bought the Elitebook for ~400$ and considering I sold an older laptop, I was almost at break even which is why I bought it. I intended to carry it when I wanted to travel light or when I was limited on space. The smaller display and lower resolution got me back to using my M6700 whenever possible. The weight is a tradeoff I'm willing to make for the extra screen real estate among other things. I still use the 2760p, but not as much as I was planning to. -
Depends what you mean by carry? school, on the street, or work?
Probably All 13"+ laptop would be instantly out if it is "on the street" situation. -

For me it needs to be a very lightweight and powerful notebook that I can type comfortably connections aren't much of a concern I don't need VGA out always so an adapter works, I also don't have a need for Ethernet
A 13 screen gives me enough space and the rest dictates my workspace.
I just wish that Sony made more sturdy VAIO z2 without that crappy connector and replaced that with a tb

Best form factor to carry? The one that does the job you need it to do, where you need to do it and in the least amount of time - while also taking into consideration the transportation/safety/security and even helpers you may or may not have for a particular day.
I myself take a tablet (with keyboard), a 13.3" notebook and a 15.6" notebook with me 'everywhere'. And I use each and everyone (individually or all together) at specific places/clients/situations each day.
Productivity takes center stage (and the more performance/productivity required; the less choices for going 'light'.
(For some a puny phone is enough... for others a 20lb DTR makes the cut and then a fully decked out desktop dragged around with 2x 30" 2560x1440 monitors is 'just right' for some too).
'Heavy' is in the shoulders of the b'holder...
