Which brand of laptops contain the best quality and most reliable components and are least likely to break down?
I've had nothing but trouble with a Lenovo laptop despite the fact that IBM are one of the most "respected" brands.
So which brand/s do you think make the highest quality laptops?
-
I'd say the IBM Thinkpads (Lenovo has not been keeping up with what IBM used to have), and HP Business line.
-
I've never been a fan of the look and feel of the Thinkpad.. what would you rate as second then?
-
Its so objective. Everyone has different experiences and this is going to be more opinion than fact but the Panasonic Toughbooks are made to take a beating so I would assume you could call that quality. Most of the components inside laptops are the same (Intel, AMD, nVidia, etc.) so thats a roll of the dice there.
-
Well, what are you considering, look or build quality?
Because yeah, I've never liked the Thinkpad look. But its build quality has always been great. If you mean design, I'd say Macs and Sonys. -
It seems that every brand has their problems from time to time, but the HP business line seem like generally well built systems. I have an 8510p right now, and aside from receiving it with a poor quality screen, which it's being replaced with a new unit for, the build feels pretty solid overall.

I was just gonna get a thinkpad until i read the multiple reviews on here talks about how lenovo has a horrible customer service, and their reps are ridiculous.
I was thinking of getting a XPS, but arghh people are reporting troubles for it also.
Macbook maybe...but all that switch, and incompatibility issues, softwares...argh and the price... -
I just want a laptop that wont break within the first year like this Lenovo has.
My Pioneer has been awesome, I just know they are expensive compared to similar spec models.
I want a nice looking laptop too but thats second priority. Thinkpads however are just not for me. If Im gonna spend 2k on a laptop i want something that looks like 2k.. -

Im talking real computers here, not Macs people. Save that for another thread

Ha ha thats so true thnksfrthmmrs.

IBM Thinkpad's all the way. Solid as a brick and never fail. Well none of mine have ever anyway.
Stay away from the lower-end market HP's. My dad has at least 3 a week come through the shop for repairs. Mainly fan/heatsink and mother board issues. -
HP business notebooks, I have not heard many problems about them I have heard countless ones about the Lenovo ones.
-
The Dell Inspiron 1720 is taking my fancy for a powerful 17"
How are Dell support wise these days? Any hassles with warranty repairs? -
-
Well in my experience
Sony build beautiful machines, but they break very quickly and their tech support and warranty is hideous, and their priceses for accessories and spare parts is insane, $700 for a battery? I could buy a whole notebook for that.
Dell: They sent me the wrong specced notebook, that was dodgy anyway, it took over 5 hours speaking to heavily accented indians before they agreed to send me the parts I had paid for, after I realised how dodgy the whole machine was I sent it back.
Asus: It has a few issues, bad Engrish software is a major one, Build quality isnt excellent and they seem to be plauged by battery problems, On the upside their support has been excellent in both pre and post sales.
Ive heard good things about the XPS series, But id stay away from the inspirons, Sony seem to be more focused on looks than durability, and Asus definately has design and quality issues.
Ive heard good things about Lenovo, Fujitsu, and NEC, HP I havent heard many good things about but the bad things I have heard are mostly superficial stuff, Everyone always seems to like macs. -

If counted ALL laptops no matter what category. The ToughBook is the toughest one. Then come Thinkpad, HP business line and Dell Latitude.
-
Clevo based laptops are very powerful and use high quality parts, but if dropped its done.
I agree that IBM thinkpads are definitely the most durable, but they look and run like crap.
Its really opinion based.
I will tell you clevo, others will tell you other brands.

Well personaly i love the HP Business Line, my laptop has had a few problems from the start, thank god for warrenty.... but once u get the kinks out of it, its a handy, good performance and well designed laptop
But thats my opinion. -
Panasonic Toughbooks. Built like a tank. Very reliable and used by the US Military. But very expensive, very heavy and very bulky.
-
I think my HP dv6000t runs pretty well. Given I haven't traveled much with it, but it really does everything (music editing, graphics editing, gaming, and runs all apps) quite smoothly. Sony always appealed to me, but I don't want to pay that much for design.
So HP's business laptops are good? Would they work well for all the things I just mentioned, graphics good, etc? or are they just meant for business users. -
-
Wow just saw the prices on those laptops!
For an average $2000, I would hope that my laptop would be top of the line. -
I say Panasonic toughbook, it can take a bullet and it is water resistant. Rugged design, if you accidentally dropped no need to worry about. Ok! like what you are talking about the other notebook, if you accidentally dropped that, whats gonna happen, i say bye!! bye!!

the most quality IMO and based on experience ARE the following
Dell
Gateway
Toshiba
Acer
these are the laptops ive really had experience with.
my dell inspiron 8200 from 5 years ago still work fine. kinda slow after so much beating im surprised its lasted me this long.
the gateway its been a few months but ive brought it around with me everywhere. school, lan parties, cafe's. all within the city but it lives!
toshiba, i dont like that they put their fans underneath the laptop, ive got to prop it up to keep it cool.
acer is alright nothing special imo. -

According to Consumer reports and PCW, it's APPLE and LENEVO
