Has anyone tried maxing out the 128 Gb ram limit in vista by trying to build a mini supercomputer?

Never tried, you would need a Tyan server motherboard with 32 or more memory slots to get 128gb of memory.
I have a Tyan Server, but its a ddr based socket amd system. Their are only 16 memory slots, so it has 16Gb of ecc pc3200 memory.
It runs Server 2003 great. I have not tried vista, cause I do not like Vista. I am an XP fanboy.

For Vista, I've only seen 8GB, since the P35 only supports 8 GB.
I've seen 32GB for Server 2003 though. -
Let us push it! Go for it!

Windows doesn't run on my Sparc based machines with that much memory. They do run Solaris beautifully however ;-)

i belivethat the average high amount that people have is about 8gb, why do u need 128 gb of ram anyways.

I think this thing is what you will want if you want 128Gb or more

That thing looks so awesome, Imagine filling all 16 memory slots, that would look so good in a show rig

Of course, you just have to get a good pci graphics card.
Tyan actually makes some boards which have a 16x pcie port on them. Now that thing would own in gaming. 128Gb of memory, and dual xeons/opterons

Well in that case, HDD is much more important than say, for example RAM. What you wanna do is get a super big HDD. whether internal, external or eSATA all will work fine. A TB of porn? Have you thought of getting help? I mean I only have maybe 20GB's, tops!

That's a nice 5 gigapixels at 24bit per pixel pictures...

maybe a P45 with 4x4GB DDR3 will do

128gb is the limit? I didnt know that, because the 64bit architecture allows for several TB of ram address space if I am not mistaken.
What is the most amount of RAM someone has put into a 64-bit Vista computer?
