AMD FX 6100
Intel i7 extreme 3970X
-
No fair - the 3970X is the current best, most expensive consumer processor
!
I like the 2nd and 3rd generation Core i7 mobile quad core processors; they hold up very well to their their desktop counterparts, especially the 2960XM and 3920/40XM. -
I vote for the 3920XM, because I am completely biased.
-
it really isnt fair to name the top-of-the-market processor. It's best to choose one not so mainstream if you're going to start a thread. any newb can look up the latest and greatest processor and claim it's their favorite
-
One's a high-end mobile processor, and the other is a mid-ranged desktop processor. Pretty much comparing apples to oranges here....
-
I prefer my Penryn Core 2 Duo P8700 :3
-
Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Ya, I'm a big fan of Dothan P-M and Penryn C2D myself.

The number of options in this poll is a bit lacking, to say the least. Also, there's nothing particularly special/noteworthy/interesting about the 2 listed processors that makes them historically important the way the Celeron 300A, Conroe Core 2 Duo, or Athlon 64 were.
18 months from now, these 2 processors will just be considered boring old tech while we talk excitedly about how awesome Rockwell, Excavator (possibly?), and Cortex A50 are. -
My Old Intel Pentium 100....simply because it was my first big purchase when it was launched (yes, I bought a new computer over a 2nd hand car which was to be my first car).
a few years later I turned it into a keychain when I was in college -
I do not see a point to this, both are in completely different price and performance fields. You simply cannot compare them and name a favourite since each has an ideal usage scenario. Its like comparing a Toyota Corolla with a MAC truck.
Now if the question was what are people's favourite processors, then this would also be pointless as every processor is made for a certain usage spectrum and quite frankly, most people didn't get much of a choice when it came to laptops.
If the question was about what are everyone's favourite processors of all time (with a touch of nostalgia) then I would say mine is the Pentium 4 Prescott, first chip I fried with excessive voltage with smoke. -
My favorite all time CPU processors are the i7-720QM, and the i7-3610QM!
-
Why the FX4100 instead of th FX 4300? The 3920XM is almost twice as good as the FX 4100 but costs about 5 times more. As mentioned above comparing apples with oranges. I voted for the FX 4100 because it is a great processor for the money. It was a big step up from the older II X architecture and athlon´s. I´d say for mid-budget systems AMD is the best (for low budget pentium, for high budget intel i5 and i7)
I guess i havent been long enough interested in computer to have a favourite CPU the only 2 i have really been working with and knowing what they were are the i5 3210m and the Core2 Quad Q9550. -
niffcreature ex computer dyke
My favorite processor is a Celeron dual core 1.8 ghz overclocked to 3ghz.

-
Intel 80286-12
Unfortunately they are getting more expensive with age, but you cannot get an easier to rebuild processor
Chris -
Eh, back when I was a kid, my favorite CPU was the AMD Athlon 64 3800+ that was in my 2005 eMachine desktop. The performance impressed me a lot, considering that the CPU Wars was pretty hot back then and a lot of people then still tried to hold onto the believe that Intel *must* and *always* be better than AMD.
However, today AMD is kind of ho-hum and my current favorite is the Intel Pentium G630 for the same reasons that Athlon 64 impressed me. "You have to have at least an i3/i5 in order to game well"... bollocks! Haven't had a single problem with the G630 (when paired with a GTX 560 SE) with any of the games I play, old or new. And I saved ~50% from the price of an i3-2100. -
I have seen a 486 in person, talk about built like a tank and the size of those pins!
My current mobile CPU fav would be the 3920xm/3940xm with adequate cooling they are beasts. I gotta say that I'm pretty satisfied with my i7-3720qm though, it basically reduced crunch time in half compared to my 920xm, my P8600 which is great for average Joe loads can go hide in shame when it's time to crunch numbers though. -
K-Tron you and I must be old ... im certain I have an old AST 286 computer in a back room somewhere. I know for fact my old 8086 with the 5MB MFM Hard drive is still around.
Tijo, want som old Pentium and 486 era chips??? my husband has a drawer full of them from 80486SX-25 to the latter DX4-100, P-60 to Pentium II's
now one of my earlier favorites in PC's would be the Cyrix 6x86 upgrade chips, VIA and IDT never excited me much back then -
i have intel and its working superb
-
Lets see if you can recognize this. I have a Linotype with an AST board in it, a 8 or 12mb MFM RLL drive, 4kb of memory on EISA cards, and a 12mhz 80286. It had a 8mhz processor to begin with. It worked great for years, but the memory died on it and I have yet to find a working replacement.

), I mean preformance wise that machine has always run great. Like a year ago i used it as an internet and office machine only and for that purpose it works still great it comes close to modern netbooks, which is not bad for a machine over a decade old now (or netbooks are bad :thumbsup
. Lots of people are negative about Pentium 4 processors but they are not that bad at all in my opinion. I mean clock for clock the Pentium III is two times better but as long as you have more than twice the clock speed no problem
Preformance wise the pentium 4 i am running still holds up quite well. I ran some passmark benchmarks with it and it scores in the region of 320 points (my i5 3210m did 4240 as a comparison). It got smashed at multimedia instruction (a 3770k is almost 200 times better). But appart from that the it more or less holds up especialy in the single thread benchmarks. I´d say the Pentium 4 3.06GHZ with HT enabled is one of those processors worth remembering as it was a great processor

Besides the fact that the OP is a troll....
My favorite processors of all time are probably the Athlon XP series of 2001-2004. -
My favourites are:
- The 100MHz Pentium Processor that was in my first computer. Back then I really had to pay attention to the software specs and breathe a sigh of relief when it just needed a 66MHz Pentium to play. It lasted me 6 years before being replaced...
- AMD Athlon XP processors (circa 2002-2003) were way ahead of its time against the equivalent Pentium 4 and gave Intel a real scare. I had a AMD 2600+ and it was pretty nippy, it's rare to see an AMD processor in the high end benchmarks nowadays which is a shame.
- Intel Core 2 Duo's despite its age are still decent performers today.
- Intel Core (Sandy Bridge) was a big step up in efficiency and performance from its predecessor. Boost in Integrated Graphics performance was welcoming. -
My old Celeron 366MHz running at 550MHz on an Epox VIA KT266A motherboard with simple air cooling.
-
If I had the money to spend, which ever one is faster of course.
If I'm on a budget and still want a fast video card than that's a tough one.
What is your favorite processor?
