There's a laptop that's really great except its gpu is the Intel 4500MHD. I'm not a heavy gamer at all but I do play some MMOs like WoW and the other free MMOs that are floating out there these days. Can this GPU handle such games?

You should be able to play WoW at low resoloutions, counter strike should work too. Just don't expect any eye candy

    Beat me to it! :D
The sims 2 should run too. Source games should be able to run a low res. You should not have bought something with an intel IGP if you wanted to play anything recent. Any game pre 2005-2006 will run OK.

Hahaha. the 4500 isn't that bad. Better than the Xpress 200 in my old laptop at any rate. You can play some FPS's at low settings as well - Halo should run fine, and Wolfenstein Enemy Territory should be okay as well. Warcraft 3 (and Starcraft, obviously) should run at maximum settings.

So I'm getting mixed responses from everywhere I ask. Some said that for MMOs like WoW, it's more about the ram than gpu. Would that be right? The laptop I'm eyeing for has a 5mb and an intell T6400 processor.

Can someone put everything into prospective for me? How does the Intel 4500 compare to say, a low-end desktop gpu like Gefore 6150SE?

Notebookcheck has a long table of benchmark results. The 4500MHD is in the same range as the GeForce 7400. There should be more info about specific games in this thread.

If you are not a heavy gamer then I would recommend the Intel GPU. You may have to compromise on a few settings, but it keeps cool, doesn't train the battery and is less likely to die on you just after the warranty has expired.

It should be able to play Spore and Sins of a Solar Empire at low settings.

It can also play Sim City and Command and Conquer 3 (on low).

The only trouble with CnC3 is when someone launches a nuke

I'm read some reviews of intell4500mhd but there aren't many. And they don't really go into the specifics of what I'm looking for. I've seen some people on various websites stating that they can play WoW or even Oblivion 3 on their Intell 4500MHD laptops. I'm not sure if they're telling the truth or not.

And I compared to 3dmark05 score of the 4500mhd with an old desktop gpu the Gefore 6150Le. The 6150Le had a score of around 600 while the 4500mhd is around 1340(from notebookcheck). The computer that has the 6150le can play Warcraft3 on high settings but not the MMOs. Since the Intel 4500 has a 3dmakr05 score that's twice as high, would it be able to play those MMOs?

The same as if you had a HDD of 320GB instead of 250GB :)
Well... well I think that in the case of RAM you would have a slighter higher performance as far as 4500MHD memory is shared from RAM.

I think it can play decently low system requirement games such as the first CS and HL1 and Starcraft and the generation close to these games.. Just don't try out the high video memory requiring games.
