many people mentioned they expect their cuurent laptop to last for 4 years.
So, pickign uop on that, what laptop specs do you ecpect to see in 4 years ?

Too hard to say with technology moving so fast...
Something like(moving with technology in ratios)
14.1" WXGA+ 1440x900 S-MVA screen
6-core processor @ 64mb cache
12gb DDR(?) RAM @ 4-6gb per stick
600gb+ solid state flash HD
The GPU I'm still unsure in...but perhaps something like a base onboard GPU with a modular GPU cardslot?
Modular OD(Fully modular)
Google OS 3.4a
-
13.3" (i m absolutely into macbooks),
12-core processor (handling both CPU n GPU tasks, so there wont be any onboard or integrated GPU on it),
12gb DDR (like coriolis)
600gb+ solid flash hd.
GOOGLE OS (sounds cool, freeware!!!)
perhaps a pci-xpress compact, which u can plug an external GPU (if needed) into the laptop,
The reason for a pci-e compact is becoz the GPU of the future maybe uses 2 much power and thus needing power source from somewhere else than the laptop. -
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
4 Core Processor @ 4.0Ghz 64-bit/128-bit
8gb DDR4 RAM
350gb Solid State Flsh HDD
2gb GDDR4 X2900/9900 GPU's @ 1.5ghz/3.0ghz
12-cell hybrid battery lasting 8hrs -
A type of Processor we don't know about yet.
At least 10GB RAM
600 GB - - 1TB Harddrive, But I think most notebooks will have two HD's as a norm.
At least 4GB for Graphics Card.
Battery will probally be 50% better, I think they might introduce very small or thin solar panels on the lid to keep battery charging even on the go. -
I think patriots specs are more realistic, except maybe the gpus. I mean the 8800 series will be out in a month (and soon after ati will get its new series in too). I dont think its gonna take nvidia/ati 4 years to come up with an upgrade for the 8***/2*** series. The 7800 came out last summer, so less than a year and a half later its the 8800.

i think maybe that laptop processors will be on par with desktop processors but i dont agree with the gpus and cpu's together because that would put the graphics card makers out of business so they would bring out something better than what a cpu gpu processor could do i think, i dunno but technology is moving really fast like a previous poster said so its hard to say unless ur a top exec. if people could of thought up this stuff 200 yrs ago imagine what computers would be like lol we probably wouldnt be using computers right now it would probably be something weird.

hmmm.... well were talking about 'notebook specs' here. so it will some what weaker than desktop.
note: The following are what I would predict for 'average' 14-15 inch notebooks (not the insanely high end ones)
memory:
2006 = 512mb common, 2gb luxury <--- ddr2
2007 = 1gb common, 4gb luxury <--- ddr2
2008 = 2gb common, 4gb luxury <--- ddr2
2009 = 2gb common, 8gb luxury <--- ddr3
2010 = 4gb common, 8gb luxury <---- ddr3
processor:
- would expect a 45nm processor. A successor to the c2d with 4 cores with 2ghz FSB, 8-12mb cache and an insanely low wattage usage. (desktops would get 8 cores but would would only be available to huge notebooks)
- min speed would be 4ghz
video card:
- an inbuilt video card possessing as much power as a 7300gt.
hmm nvidia releases a new series every 1.5 years right? so:
- prolly nvidia 9000s ( 2 series higher than the current) with at least 512mb ddr4 memory (maybe they would introduce a whole new memory type) and the 10,000s will be by 2011.
hard disk:
I wouldn't mind having solid state HDs sacrificing on space vs regular HDs for example:
- 120gb of solid state vs 320gb of regular HD (yes i estimate only 320gb would be the max 2.5inch laptop hard drives by 2010)
Os:
- unfortunately.... still windows vista....... with service pack 2 if were lucky.
cd-rom:
- blue ray disc (if it survives) writer, but definitely something that can hold more data than a DVD.
- smaller dimensions? highly unlikely... would be nice dou.
battery:
- hope they put into research a better battery technology which is lighter and lasts longer.
What laptop specs do you expect to see in 4 years ?
