I'm running the Ferrari, AMD chipset, currently with DDR333 PC2700. Can I switch to any DDR SODIMM, ie. DDR400 PC3200?

Basically I'd like to know what the restricting factor is - is it DDR vs. DDR2, is it the frequency?

    Thanks

Turions (AMD processors as a whole) still do not support DDR2. You can upgrade to PC3200, 200 pin Sodimm as this is the highest speed supported by your processor
You may have to update the BIOS, though

So generelly speaking, I can use any DDR (of which the top one is the DDR400)?

You need DDR but you definately need 200 pin DDR, if you get slower RAM then what is made for the notebook, then you won't get full performance. I would think that model should take DDR400, if it doesn't, it will just downclock to 333 so it's not a big deal.

Is there a specific place I can check to see if my lappy would effectively use an upgrade to DDR400?

There shouldnt be any issues with running DDR 400 memory. If you want to be sure then goto the memory manufacturers website( Crucial for example). They should list compatible memory specifications for the laptop.
