Just got my new laptop and was curious if there is anything I should right away, etc.
Should I update right away? Should I turn the laptop on without the battery charger for the first few minutes? Should I remove all the bloatware? Etc. Just want everything to go smoothly.

In my opinion, if you bought a new HP, Dell, or other major brand, you should go ahead and reinstall Windows entirely (if you have a copy of the desired version). Otherwise, go to control panel and get rid of all the bloatware, uninstall your graphics driver and update to the latest version (Nvidia drivers can be found at laptopvideo2go.com). That's all I can think of right now...

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
+ 1 for reinstalling Windows. Not only gets rid of your bloatware, but it also can get rid of a lot of other software problems that sometimes crop up on factory images. I don't think I've used a factory installation for years now...

Download AV and security apps from another computer, and install before you connect to the network. I personally like to do a clean install, but that depends on your personal taste. Most forums here have specific info on what each company includes, and what you do or don't need to install or uninstall for their models.
What should I do when first booting up my laptop?
