Im aware of fakes and mods to make things appear genuine, but in an effort to avoid that, is there anything I could ask the seller that may prove the item is genuine?
Or is it best to just stay away from ebay? Its a small time seller from china, and has no bad reviews.

Make sure the label shows the manufacturer. I bought one panel but am returning - the panel isn't bad, ChiMei, but it does have some dead pixels and won't support G-Sync (needs to be AUO specifically like OEM model was). Also get it in writing from the seller in eBay messaging that they will allow for zero dead pixel guarantee. I got my new seller, from China, to guarantee that. My old seller was in USA, they will still grant me a return without penalty, but their policy is up to three dead pixels. I think I have more though, because one of the three areas is bigger, so on a 4k screen, it must be 3 or more pixels in that one spot alone. My new seller was also honest that it was a refurb panel, thus the older date of manufacture. I am still going to give it a shot because to upgrade to the OEM panel from Dell would be $600+, and it's a fourth of that going via eBay.
I tried messaging several sellers on Alibaba (AliExpress), but they refuse to answer questions. They just say things like "send message when order". No way am I going with that. eBay is, if anything, too buyer-friendly, so I am sure if I had issues, there will never be a problem getting a refund on eBay.
What should I know about buying panels on ebay before buying?
