The fan on my notebook is running loud. I sent my computer back to Sony. They replaced the fan. The issue remains.

When I boot the computer, thefan RPM is at about 2200 RPM. After about 3 hours the RPM is at 3,800 but the temperature of the cores remain at 36 and 38.

    Undervolting won't help.

Someeon suggested changing the settings of Smart Fan in the BIOS. Does anyone know how to do this?

Try changing it in the Vaio Care app in the Control panel. There you have 2 options usually. Performance and balanced. Those control fan speeds only, and not processor performance. Balanced will keep it quiet, but it'll run a little warmer, and performance will keep it nice and cool but be louder.

It would help to know what model, what cpu, and what gpu you have as well as OS type.

There are a lot of variables that go into determining system fan speeds. In the case of a laptop, the 'noise' is the last consideration.
