    & how does it hold up against a TurionX2 @ 2.0 Ghz(I think its 65nm)?

    Socket S1

    Its basically a TurionX2 at 1.7GHz with 2X256k cache.

As I said its performance will equal a 65nm TurionX2 @ 1.7Ghz w/t 2X256k cache. Considering there is no TX2 running at that speed it will be slightly slower than the TL-56(1.8GHz, 2X512k) and faster than the 90nm TL-50/52.

BTW there is a newer TK-55(1.8Ghz, 2X256k) model available at some OEM's(Like HP).

The 65nm's are pretty much MIA from retail stores. But buy.com has the TL60, 64 in stock. They even had the TL66 in stock the last time I checked. Also most of the TX2's sold currently should be 65nm apart from the TL50/52 and older stock any retailer might have.

Make sure to get the 65nm TL-60 it's TDP is 31W same as MK-36. The TL-60 90nm TDP is 35W so might over power your cooling system.

I have not found the 65nm version but it does cost about $400.
I have found the TL-52 31W $176, I would go for that, Price and no heat issues. For $450 I would just save money and buy a new computer.
Here is a link they might be cheaper other places, Link

Edit: Can not find on BestBuy can you link?

I would agree but typically OEM's design the cooling systems based on the highest TDP for a given series and considering Dell offered the 1501 with the 35W processors, he should be fine using a 35W cpu.
    I said buy.com not Bestbuy ;)

Miner, it connected me but 66 not 60, very nice CPU but very expensive. But as you said heat might not be an issue. I like my Idea of tl-52, going to get him thru a couple more years and save money. TL-66 not matched for his computer (overkill) do not need.

Yeah, I just put in TL-66 in the search box. The TL-60 is listed at $274 with free shipping....

With a TL-52, he would be trading a faster single core for a slower dual core processor. Ofcourse for multi-threaded/multi tasking the TL-52 would be better but from a MK 36 it would be better idea to get a TL-60 or above so the single threaded performance will be on par while providing better multithreaded performance. Ofcourse in the end it all depends on how much the OP wants to spend on the upgrade.

Good point, but Thomas this is 90nm TDP 35W It would be a good choice but as said can't find TL-60 65nm OEM's must take all they can make. And too expensive. Good luck
