I'm going off to college and have to get rid of my speakers. This will be the first time I'm using head phones. I plan to go big on head phones because I use them a lot. I was looking at the Ultrasone HFI-700 Headphones . I’m not sure which sound card I should be getting so that I can get full use out of the head phones. The options are either

High Definition Audio 2.0 ~ Included in price
    Integrated Sound Blaster® Audigy™HD Software Edition ~ $25
ExpressCard Sound Blaster X-Fi® Xtreme Audio Sound Card ~ $75

Id go with the integrated Audigy.

Having an expresscard sound card can get annoying

The Integrated Audigy is just software - and bad software at that.

You have legit questions, I agree
Nevertheless I'd recommend not to spend more money and stick with on-board sound. All headphones have the quality limitations and on-board sound will be a match

o really.. i thought the Audigy was integrated into the mobo.

there are small drawbacks of using an external audio card.

stick with the good old stock audio card then
