Well I attempted to use the IR remove for my Dell Vostro 1500 watching Friends season 2 .. ironically the last episode seeing it for the first time. The image restarted so I hit the fast forward button on the remote and then BANG.
At first the movie would not pause but keep going stuttering heavily. From there trying to restart it started opening everythin that I had clicked on.
From there my computer came up with a critical error shutting down in 60 seconds yadda yadda.
I let it shut down and attempted to boot up. When heading to the xp boot screen the computer starts beeping at such a rapid pace it is almost one noise.
The noise was quieter when I unplugged the power cord.
I attempted to enter the bios but it just kept trying to modify the first page of the bios which has no options.
I have now inserted the original hard drive for the notebook. It booted up no issues, slightly slow.
A thing I also notice is that with the laptop sitting on my lap (was swapping hd and in a rush) that I am expierencing a slightly "tingly"/"zappy" sensation on my theighs specifically from the area of the wifi card. The electrical feeling "zaps" were strong enough to reach a region where the legs join from the distance of my knees.
Edit: I now feel soft zapping through the touchpad![]()
and an important note: My warranty from Dell ended Excatly 24 hours ago.

What is the BIOS that Vostro uses?
For example, for Award BIOS, high frequency beeps while running mean overheated CPU. Repeating beeps (endless loop) mean memory error, could be improperly seated or missing memory. -
Bios A05 is the bios I am using
I know my memory should be seated properlly as it did boot up with a different hard drive. The cpu is set at 53C ATM. -
Does the beeps have some kind of a rhythm?
I found the beep codes for Vostro 1510, see page 35 to 37:
http://support.euro.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/vos1510/en/QRG/PDF/book.pdf -
I am running a vostro 1500. The beeps were so rapid that it was hard to distinguish the beeps.
-
Yeah I couldn't find the same documentation for the 1500, they only have this for the 1510.
After you swapped the HDD, you can enter the BIOS normally now? And no more beeps? -
Zero beeps. The notebook is electrocuting me now for sure as I am icing my thumb from a burn

ahh, X2P went to the moderator side, good work man.
I am sorry to hear of your problems. I cant think of what would cause static buildup in the system which is continually recurring like that. Best thing to do is shut it off, and remove the batteries and the memory and let it discharge overnight.
Even if your warranty ended yesterday, the people at dell have hearts and are human, and maybe you can negotiate with them.

^ I agree with K-tron, especially if your laptop is electrocuting you. Now I've heard everything on this forum.
-
I've only seen this kind of thing once before.. on a Toshiba which was eventually recalled because the design caused the motherboard to short due to static build up. This is a new one for the Vostro though.
Oh god.. I haven't laughed that hard is a long time.. I would not count on Dell giving you a free warranty extension. -
Come on, dont be so negative, its worth a shot. What is the difference between yesterday and today, I mean come on. One day, they should still be able to do something for you. Its not like it broke a year after teh warranty ended.

Wow X2P, that Vostro is something alright....
So you did eventually recover it from Dell Japan?
I almost wonder if they would have a heart, seeing as it's Chinese Immigrants that speak poor Japanese. I would call them, especially if my laptop were to electrocute me. Hope that thumb gets better.
There could've been a hardware error... but that would be weird that it would effect the area around your wireless card...
(And congrats on modship. ^^) -
Sounds like a grounding problem if its electrocuting you.
-
Japanese only use a ground prong for their washing machine (its a green cable seperate from the power cable) and that is it. nothing else in japan uses a ground prong but a UPS power surge protector hence why there is no ground prong on almost any product
.
I let it drain all day and I am currenlty not being shocked.
What could be the cause of static build up? Could lighting storms cause it? I have zero carpet in this house.
I will try to put the hard drive that was present causing the initial issues in a few minutes. -
Chucking the other HD in it booted up but getting the odd beep.
-
I was able to find the source of the electrical shocks. The lets call them "certified" technicians at Dell had not put the receiving end of the power plug back onto the mother board properly so it was touching the metal part of the chassis. >.< once again Dell strikes XD
What the heck is going on o.0 !?!? Hardware or Software?
