So I finally got my SSD, and I'll be installing it today once I download some drivers to a thumb drive first because I'm doing a complete Windows re-install.
What things should I do first when I get Windows installed? I remember reading about TRIM long time ago, but I haven't payed attention so I don't know if it's relevant anymore or if Samsung Magician replaces it or whatever. Speaking of which, what exactly does Magician do? Should I install/use it?
Conveniently it seems that the firmware was just updated, so I'm assuming I should update that too.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

I'd install magician. Everything you need is there, from firmware updates, to os tweaks, to manual trim, to benchmarks.
But imho you can choose to do nothing and your ssd will still be okay with a fresh install.

sacrifice a lamb for the SSD gods, and get a cat
depending on the size I would disable:
- the memory cache, it will free you 16gb
- hibernation, another 16gb

I have the Samsung SSD Magician installed - but refuse to run it (have a hard time allowing a program to run in the background 'just because'). I did just use it to update the firmware though (and disabled it again right after).
You can try some/all of the following to get a much more responsive system:

Good luck.
