I have the hard drive from another machine. No longer have that machine. Will have a new machine, new model. The HDD has 80GB, which is less than my new machine's HDD. It has some software I had installed, including the Win XP that was installed for the previous machine. What can I do with this extra HDD? All I can think of is selling it, but for how much? Any other way to use it?

Yes you can use it, buy an external hdd enclosure for it and you can use it as an external drive. Selling it is probably useless as 80gb is small and not very desirable being used its worth even less.

Thank you. Actually it's new, not used, except I installed the software.

Lots of options here for external enclosures.
