    Hey guys, sorry for posting on the wrong forum, but I don't got an account on the other forum, and I'm in a rush right now.

    For short, my littlebrother will soon be confirmed, and we will buy him a new GAMER computer.

    Everything is ready to be ordered, but I'm in doubt!

    My choice is between an I7 860 and a ATI RADEON 5850 OR an I5 750 and a ATI RADEON 5870! And no, I can't pick both, because my budget is limited :)

    I don't know what to choose! Both CPU's are running on socket 1156. It's really hard to decide, since there are different opinions on it.

    Thanks.

    Kind Regards powerfull499

    Yeah, sorry!

    A gamer computer. Only for games. No video editing or tough rendering programs.

    Only for games? Games on notebooks will by and large be GPU limited, so the 5870 will give you more bang for your buck. The i5 is a very fast CPU.

    @thinkpad, it's a Catholic tradition.

    And honestly if he's the gamer type get the i5 with 5870, since most games utilize the GPU alot more than CPU. Even if the game is CPU dependent the i5 will do fine.

    Lol, looks like Pitabred beat me to it.

    Isn't this a desktop question(judging by the i5/i7 models)? Don't desktop questions go at DTR? O_O

    Anyhow, for purely gaming purposes I'd pick the 5870. Both CPUs aren't that far apart for maybe 80% of games except those really CPU hungry and CPU bound ones so unless that is your focal interest, I'd get the one with the beefier GPU.

    I would definitely go for the i5/5870 setup. You'll see, i5 750 is a very capable CPU too

    Get the 5870, as mentioned it will give you more bang for the buck.

    Any I-series has plenty of power, it's the graphics that kill you these days. The I5 CPU's are well ahead of the curve on hardware.
