    What's faster ? 160GB at 5400rpm or 100GB at 7200RPM?

    It's not that trivial...

    If they both use the same number of platters, then the 160GB will have a 60%


    I'm thinking of getting a 5400rpm instead of the 7200rpm due to less noise/heat and better (?) power consumption.


    What do you guys think ?

    Sounds like half a statement please finnish


    Assuming both current technology 100BG @7200 faster
    160GB good choice extra storage fast enough keep disk defraged and you'll be fine. Many have stated heat and noise not real issue I believe there is some truth in that.

    From the benchmarks I've seen, both seem to be pretty evenly matched, performance-wise.

    Most laptop manufacturers no longer offer 100 GB 7200 rpm hard drives. I bought my laptop with a 120 GB 7200 rpm hard drive

    Lenovo thinkpad has 100GB 7200rpm max capacity as a selection.

    Why has Lenovo fallen behind with hard drive options? Dell offers 120 GB 7200 rpm and 160 GB 7200 rpm hard drive options for the D630 and D830.

    Wow great link :)


    Seems like they are about the same... maybe 10% performance difference (in favour of the 7.2K drive)

    But the power consumption is almost double at idle ....

    5400RPM is the better choice (using my priorities)
