Google is your friend...it was the very first link that came up after I searched in google "intel turbo memory"... -
Quick answer. A Gimick.
But if its free take it. -
Turbo Memory is like an extra gig of memory that is slower than RAM and faster than a HDD for Vista only. It splits off into two parts on my computer:
1. Readyboost cache (537MB)- acts as a really fast readyboost drive
2. Hybrid Hard Disk cache (384 MB)- when unplugged my HDD turns off a lot to save power, and I'm pretty sure Vista uses it for system stuff.
HDTune shows access times of 0.1ms, average read speeds of about 40MB/s, and burst rates upwards of 150MB/s. It's pretty fast for flash memory but nothing compared to RAM.
Altogether it shaves off a few seconds of startup times and transfer times, adds an extra 10-15 minutes battery life, but that's about it. I'd say it was worth the extra $35. -
I hope vista makes better use of it in future updates. In theory it sounds promising.
