    Hello,

I have a 19 inch square monitor so I was gonna get buy a similar monitor, but I just found another 19 inch monitor but it's widescreen. The widescreen monitor is about $40 cheaper, but I don't know how comfortable I'll be with the asymmetry.

I'm not OCD or anything like that, but my work consists in doing DTP, proofreading texts, comparing similar documents, and things like that. I'd like to know what people with similar jobs think.

    Thanks

All depends on what resolutions that the screens can use. Otherwise I preffer widescreen before a square screen when it comes to do something like that you're gonna do.

like michel k said the resolution is important.
I have a 1280x800 panel in my dell e1505, and I have a Dell 24" 1920x1200 monitor plugged in via VGA. The monitors are set into spanning mode.
When I drag my mouse from my internal screen to the external it is fine, but when I go to bring the mouse from the 1920x1200 to the 1280x800 it gets tricky. The resolution is very different, so I need to move the mouse to the middle of the 1920x1200 screen for the mouse to be just above the taskbar on the internal screen.
It is only a problem when their are different resolutions.
If both screens can do the same resolution, everything should be fine.

    I hadn't thought of that. The resolutions are 1280 x 1028 and 1440 x 900, which isn't that bad, I think. Thanks.

Would definately go with the 1440x900 screen then. 1280x1024 seems low for 19", so does 1440x900 also, but it's better than 1280x1024 for multitasking imho.

If you haven't bought the second monitor yet you might want to consider a slightly larger screen size, monitors are measured diagonally and a 19" wide screen will be quite a bit shorter than a 19" 4:3 aspect screen. A 22" wide screen monitor with a 1680x1050 resolution would probably be a much better match for a 19" 1280x1028 standard screen. You can measure the height of your monitor and look at the screen dimensions of the monitors your considering to get an idea.
