I am planning to buy a laptop, and on Dell's website they r displaying Dell Inspiron 15R new, I was wondering which configuration is technologically better in the long run. Or they are just techie terms.
1) Intel® Core i3-350M Processor (2.26Ghz, 4 Threads, 3M cache) with
4GB (2GBx2) 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM (Work at 1066MHz for Intel Arrandale CPU) and
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 - 1GB
OR
2) Intel® Core i5-430M Processor (2.26Ghz, 4 Threads, Turbo Boost up to 2.53 GHz, 3M cache) with
4GB (2 X 2 GB) 2 DIMM DDR3 1333Mhz and
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 - 1GB
Can any one shed light on this ??

the 2nd one is better as long as price is same... as core i5 has turbo boost and hyperthreading while i3 only has hyperthreading... the advantage of turbo boost is that ur cpu can speed up more if ur doing a single thread... free Overclock in a way...
-
What is the price difference? See if that price difference is worth it for you to have a single core clock 10% higher on some occasions. It probably isn't.

Thank you all.
In what occasions i may need "turbo boost", is it required every time ..or seldom. What activity needs "turbo boost" functionality.
by the way, this configuration
Intel® Core i5-430M Processor (2.26Ghz, 4 Threads, Turbo Boost up to 2.53 GHz, 3M cache) with
4GB (2 X 2 GB) 2 DIMM DDR3 1333Mhz and

..is coming out to be cheaper then the other one, as other components are either cheaper, or of less configuration, such as 1.3 MP webcam, SATA Try load, 2.8 AHr Battery, 10/100 Ethernet ...... -
"Turbo boost" is a feature built into the processor to let it become slightly more powerful under some conditions, but otherwise serves no other function and is not required or even helps anything other than the 10% processor speed increase in some situations. The situation where "turbo boost" is enabled is when a program is utilizing only one of the processor's two cores and the other is idle. In this case, "turbo boost" will increase the frequency of the active core by about 10% to increase processing power by that same amount. -

I'd go for max specs (i.e. bluetooth, webcam, HDMI, VGA, eSATA, etc) so that when I go out into the market to resell my machine say a year or so down the line, I'll get a good price for it...
I've got the 15R core i5 and quite pleased with it I must say... Only drawback was that it came without win7 pre-installed and only DOS.
Best Regards,

Now let me ask you: when you say cheaper components or less configuration, what are the differences you are looking at? -
Yeah I'd look at the full specs of both machines before deciding. Obviously if they both come at the same final price you're tweaking something somewhere to get these same prices (unless one machine is a pre-config on sale).
Also, what uses is your Inspiron going to serve? -
to answer your question abut which is better in the long run, the 2nd one, undoubtedly.
Whats the Dell Inspiron 15R New ?
