As stated in the title, when can we expect this standard to be released for notebooks? I know it was announced earlier this year and would be backwards compatible with the current standard.

The reason I am excited is because of the much higher bandwidth it offers (2 to 10X the current) and a chance to have decent external GPUs on laptops, turn a smaller laptop into a gaming one. That's what I'm really hoping for period. :)

The Asus XG Station will probably never come out and not too sure about the ATI XGP since it will be limited to AMD notebooks only. I'd like a solution for Intel notebooks.

I suppose its safe to say nobody knows?

It looks like it won't come out until 2009 at the earliest, and I may buy a new notebook by then. I really look forward to powerful external graphics for notebooks......

I have no idea, but I am sure someone will ask the same question about expresscard 3.0 when expresscard 2.0 comes out :D

You should check out the hybrid graphics systems if you want to have balance between onboard and dedicated graphics.
